Dred Scott Case

Failure to Solve the Problem

Picture
-Originally intended to once and for all end the debate over slavery and all subjects that pertained to it, the decision only further broke up a shattered nation and did nothing to ease growing tensions

-Abolitionists felt like this had destroyed their cause, as they had essentially lost to the Supreme Court

-Slave owners gained from the decision, as they were now able to bring their slaves anywhere, their slaves were less likely to run away, and they had the backing of the Supreme Court
